By Rhonda Sermon
Genre: YA Urban Fantasy
Release Date: May 15th 2016
Summary from Goodreads:
Witness protection has a protocol for dealing with every situation—except magic.
Fifteen-year-old Cate’s life has been monitored since her new identity was created five years ago. She’s spent countless hours learning how to deal with potential threats and dangerous situations. None of which is any use when everyone around her is suddenly frozen like statues at the bus stop.
As Cate attempts to make sense of the frightening scene, a mysterious group of teenagers appear out of thin air. They are intrigued she’s not affected, but focus on completing their deadly mission, using baffling powers before they vanish again.
When the group seeks her out the next day, Cate is drawn into a world filled with sorcery and time travel. After she accidentally brings a cheerleader back from the dead, her incredible powers are revealed. Cate is shocked to discover she has a pivotal role to play in a centuries-old battle between two mortal enemies which threatens to destroy her entire world.
With the distinction between good and evil blurred, she’s faced with the excruciating choice of which side to join. Cate can save her family or protect thousands of people from death. She can’t do both. Will she risk destroying innocent lives to save the ones she loves?

The Midnight Society Dream Cast
Sermon comments: I am often asked about my dream cast for The Midnight Society. My timesurfers street gang have spent many hours debating the perfect person to play their favourite character. It’s a guaranteed way to waste a few hours. (Oops I mean can take some time to research properly!) Here is what we came up with for a few characters.
Everyone who reads The Midnight Society is either Team Jonah or Team Austin at the end. I’m excited to hear which will be your next book boyfriend.
Meet Jonah!
Jonah is a swoon worthy guy who could have stepped straight out of the pages of a Ralph Lauren Advertisement. He’s six foot four with perfectly tousled chocolate brown hair. Cate’s BFF Eve nailed it when she declared him an insanely hot bad boy! The perfect actor to play Jonah is Douglas Booth. When I was researching before I started the book I came across a picture of him and went HELLO JONAH!
Meet Austin!
Austin has a smile that could melt an iceberg, dimples, brutally short hair and oodles of swagger. He’s over six foot and mostly wears fleecy checked shirts and jeans. He’s been a warrior since the moment he could walk and knows no other life. He’s a bundle of energy and is never completely still. He has three vivid scars down his cheek and another that curls around his ear which resemble an enormous claw mark. Chace Crawford absolutely has the killer smile and dimples. I’m very confident he would be able to rock a brutally short haircut too.
The Midnight Society and The Maligo Order have been at war for centuries. Meet their fearless leaders.
Meet Mortez!
Mortez is the leader of the Maligo Order. She is a fierce warrior and quite eccentric. Mortez is keeping an enormous secret and will do unthinkable and unspeakable things to control history. This is one lady you don’t mess with! The fabulous Helena Bonham Carter is the perfect actress to play her.
Meet Naitanui ( pronounced Nat –an- oo-i)!
Naitanui is the leader of the Midnight Society. A prodigious wizard, there is no more feared warrior in the Timesurfers world. He also has very cool dreadlocks. He ruthlessly protects history, regardless of whether it’s good or bad. That means ensuring the right people die at the right time. No exceptions. Australians who follow Aussie Rules Football will be very familiar with the exceptional athlete Nic Naitanui from the West Coast Eagles who is the perfect person to play the character he inspired.
The two girls to watch out for in The Midnight Society are the main character Cate and her sworn enemy Rose.
Meet Rose!
There is no one more perfect to play Rose than the talented Michelle Trachtenburg. From the moment Cate laid eyes on Rose she knew they would never be friends. Their genes were designed to repel one another. Aggressively! Rose has a past that haunts her, and she’s the only person who can hold their own in a fight with Mortez or Naitanui.
Meet Cate!
Cate was one of the hardest characters for me to cast. Australian actress Samara Weaving is my pick for her. Being an aussie we know she can nail the accent! Cate is easily spotted with her rainbow hair. She has an athletic body from ballet as a very young girl and then five years of intensive martial arts training during her time in witness protection. She’s also about to start the most dangerous ride of her life!
About the Author
Rhonda Sermon lives in the mostly sunny Perth, Western Australia with her husband and two children.
Her debut young adult urban fantasy novel Timesurfers was a finalist in the Young Adult category and overall runner up in the The Strongest Start 2012 Contest hosted by TheNextBigWriter.com.
On the good days, she adores writing, on the challenging days, it’s still awesome.
Her two ragdoll cats can often be found helpfully walking over her keyboard, chasing her mouse or generally complaining loudly about the lack of priority their needs are being given.
She’s a big Harry Potter fan, loves everything the talented Cassie Clare writes and her fav Aussie author is Jessica Shirvington. Her 11 and 13 year old children read ALL the time so she is always on the lookout for new and exciting books.
