Good morning everyone! Each month I will post a two part feature. The first part will be an interview with the month’s author and include a short bio. The second part of the feature is a sample of the writer’s work. Sounds fun right?

Meet Beth Trissel.

Married to my high school sweetheart, I live on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my human family and furbabies. An avid gardener, my love of herbs and heirloom plants figures into my work. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans, and the people who journeyed here from far beyond her borders are at the heart of my inspiration. I’m especially drawn to colonial America and the drama of the American Revolution. In addition to historical romance, I also write time travel, paranormal, YA fantasy romance, and nonfiction.

 

Now onto the interview…

 

Is there a certain type of scene that’s harder for you to write than others? Love? Action? Racy?

“I’m not a big fan of racy, so that’s tougher to write. My new YA series is appropriate for 14+. I enjoy writing action/adventure, mystery, history, sci-fi/ fantasy, and paranormal. Romance is the main focus or an element in my stories. The more tender side of the chemistry between a couple appeals to me. Not to say that I haven’t written hotter, because I have.”

 

How do you market your books?

“I primarily market online, although I do a few book signings here and there. For the most, I focus on popular book sites that spread the word to their readers. I’m also very active on Facebook, Twitter, my blog, Pinterest, etc.”

 

What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview? How would you answer that question?

“Why, oh why, are you driven to write, you poor soul.

Answer: Because these characters won’t stop bugging me until I tell their stories.”

 

If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

“Lord Knows She Tried.”

 

Do you set a daily writing goal?

“Sometimes. Mostly, I write whenever I can. I live in the midst of a lot of clamor.”

 

How did you come up with the titles for your novels?

“They come to me, as many of the characters do. Occasionally, it’s more of a struggle.”

 

Do you have a specific writing style?

“Does sitting on the couch pecking away at my laptop with four cats and two dogs on or beside me count as a style? If by style you mean my ‘voice’ I am told it’s strong, so readers like it a lot or really don’t.”

 

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing your books?

“I’m even crazier than I thought. Seriously, though—I am very in touch with my ancestors and the spiritual side of life. They speak to me, along with the voices in my head.”
