by C.A. Pack
Genre: YA Paranormal/Fantasy
Release date: February 7th 2017
Artiqua Press

Summary from Goodreads:

In book eight of the Library of Illumination where books literally come to life, a silent “Oops!” hangs in the air. Teenagers Johanna Charette and Jackson Roth have allowed a sneaky shapeshifter to slip right through their fingers. The good news is: he’s now trapped between the layers of time and space with their Terrorian nemesis, Nero 51. The bad news is: the Terrorian still wants to control all the Libraries of Illumination, while the shapeshifter wants to dominate everything else, and they’re doing everything possible to break free of their constraints.

Who knows how long the Illumini system will remain safe? It’s taking a toll on Johanna and Jackson, who are smack in the center of everything as they struggle to protect the libraries’ legacy. Can you spell s-t-r-e-s-s? The pressure is driving a stake between the teens, and their mercurial romance could be over before it has truly begun.

Second Chronicles of Illumination Second Chronicles Cover.jpeg
by C.A. Pack
Release Date: June 30th 2015
Summary from Goodreads:
When an alien invasion threatens the existence of all the knowledge in the universe, eighteen-year-old Johanna Charette and seventeen-year-old Jackson Roth must rely on their wits, guts, and pluck to save the fantasy-come-to-life world of the Library of Illumination.
It wouldn’t be so bad—all right, it is bad but it would hurt less—if Johanna and Jackson weren’t the ones responsible for breaching the portals to a dozen distant worlds. Now, outside forces are causing shock waves in the space-time continuum, and if that isn’t awful enough, someone from another dimension is trying to steal a book of powerful spells created by a very famous wizard.
At first, traveling to other realms in a time machine seems like a fun perk. However, discovering some inhabitants want to obliterate the teens doesn’t leave them with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Instead, they find themselves forced to sacrifice their own welfare and the safety of their loved ones for the greater good.

Dream Cast Lineup
Third Chronicles of Illumination Dream Cast

I never gave much thought to the actors I might cast in a film of the Third Chronicles of Illumination, so putting me to the task was an eye-opener. Years ago, when I wrote the first book in the series, the inspiration for my imagined protagonists came from a young couple in a stock photo that I downloaded. But I never knew their names or even how old the photo was. This time around, I did a little research, and while some of my actors may seem a little old (or young) for the parts they’re playing, I think this list is pretty close—but not perfect—as my dream cast.

    Characters                              Played By

Johanna Charette                    Katherine McNamara
Malcolm Trees                    Morgan Freeman
Jackson Roth                        Alex Pettyfer
Chris Roth                        Devon Gearhart
Brittanie                        Elle Fanning
Ava Roth                        Chloe Grace Moritz
Naimh Roth                        Julianne Moore
Logan Elliot                        Logan Lerman
Cassie                             Zendaya
Ryden Simmdry                    Robert Redford
Pru Tellerence                        Catherine Deneuve
Plato Indelicat                        Michael Caine
Nero 51                        Dwayne Johnson
Furst                            Sam Heughan
Dungen                        Michael Fassbender
Ozzro                            Stefano Masciolini
Natalia Dalura                        Julianne Hough
Dame Erato                        Helen Mirren
Odyon                            Jon Voight
Beck                            Chris Pine
Cathasach                        David McCallum
Prophet IAN c.                    Michael Ealy
Emily Brent                        Sierra McCormack
Dr. Cameron Thorne                    Liam Hemsworth

It wasn’t easy to cast characters, because I kept finding people who would have been perfect—five years ago, but are too old for a particular part right now. My choice for Jackson is probably too old for the part, but I’m going by a picture I saw online of Alex Pettyfer that captured Jackson’s spirit. The same thing happened with Johanna. At first, I thought of Nina Dobrev for the role, however, Katherine McNamara is closer to Johanna’s age.

My favorite choice is Dwayne Johnson as Nero 51, because I think he could easily pull off the character’s intimidating personality. I also like Morgan Freeman as Mal because I see him as gentle, caring, and wise. And I thought Catherine Deneuve was a no brainer for Pru Tellerence because in the Second Chronicles of Illumination, Johanna told the overseer that she looked like the actress.

Furst, Ozzro and Dungen are Dramaticans who are “…hirsute with abundant, curly, red hair that tightens into corkscrews when they are angry or scared.”  Sam Heughan, Michael Fassbender, and Stefano Masciolini can all pull off that coloring.

Doing this was a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy picturing it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. If you think you have a better “casting” idea, please let me know. c.a.pack@libraryofillumination.com
