The Elemental Assembly’s Survival Guide for Elementals

The guide is simple and has one rule—secrecy above all. Under no circumstances should power be used in front of non-elementals. Death is preferable to exposure because the death of one is inconsequential while exposure risks all elementals.

The importance of secrecy was instilled in Sophie from a very young age, but she struggles with it. Part of her wants to forgo her elemental powers so she can live a normal life. However, another part of her revels in being an elemental. The major internal conflict in Undefined relates to Sophie trying to reconcile her desire to live a normal life with her need to be true to who she is.

Jessica Ruddick is a 2014 Golden Heart finalist for her new adult novel, Letting Go, which was inspired by her own college experiences.
